DEXA Scanner
FORM is now offering DEXA scanning or Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, an important tool in measuring bone mineral density. Bone mineral density or BMD can be used to determine if someone is at risk for a bone fracture or osteoporosis as well as test overall body composition. The DEXA scan uses a low level of radiation, takes 5 minutes and is completely painless.
Osteoporosis
1 in 2 women and 1 in 8 men are at risk for Osteoporosis bone fractures. Early screening can prevent and treat the progression of bone mineral loss that may result in painful bone fractures. Screening is recommended for women over 60 and men over 75; however this age may lower if you have potential risk factors.
Some of the potential risk factors for osteoporosis include:
- Cigarette smokers
- Low physical activity
- Consuming more then 2 alcoholic drinks a day
- High caffeine intake
- Low hormone levels
Body Compostion Testing
Why use DEXA for your body composition scan?
Get the test used by professional athletic teams. The ideal balance of lean muscle and body fat can help you reach your maximum potential by improving strength, agility and sustaining power during workouts. Other tests such as calipers can be less accurate because they do not take in to account bone density and muscle mass. Unlike other tests, you are done and have results in your hand in ten minutes.
